I cannot explain to you how many times I have tried to write a new blog post.
Normally it doesn't happen because of constant interruptions and then by the time I do get to sit and write, I can't think - I can't put the words together. Even in this moment I feel like I am scrambling for something. If you could see where I am, you'd understand why I'm still scrambling for something, even though I am on my own - without interruption!
Right now, I am sitting in a crowded cafe, with big people you guys! Grown ups! I know right? It's insane! I have a HOT coffee, and I even get to wear headphones and listen to some of my favourite music (John Mayer, Joshua Micah, and all the latest hits!!). This is like too good to be true - but believe me, it's real!
So I'll attempt to write even though I'm kind of distracted by the atmosphere - right now I feel like I am on another planet.
So this morning we attended another homeschool group which was just lovely. I love meeting new families. It is such a group effort to run these programs and I am so thankful to meet people who care about my children just as much as their own. Isn't it beautiful? We covered 4 subjects in one morning. HASS, Science, Art, Design Technologies - which was incredible! Now I have the afternoon free from the kids and I am enjoying every. single. moment. Ha!
We need these quiet moments don't we? This year I am being super intentional about taking these breaks for myself. I am one of those mamas who feels guilty if I treat myself, but I can't keep doing that. It is not healthy for me or my kids. I'm a better mama when I take time to relax. Homeschooling, parenting, working, studying - whatever it is you do that constantly keeps you on your toes, can quickly burn you out if you don't stop for a breath of air!
Here are the top 3 things I do to help unwind:
1. Get up early
Yes, I hear you laugh! I used to laugh at this one too. But it really can help! Waking up one sweet hour before my children can really set the tone for the day. I can rest (yes I need that after a fullish night of sleep), I can fill my cup (not just coffee) spiritually, mentally and emotionally, and then I feel strong enough for the day.
2. Take a day off
Obviously not on my own (a whole day to myself? Now that I can laugh at!) But what I mean here is, sometimes I have to ditch the school day. There are days where you just need to do nothing! Now, this can back fire too. If my kids are running around mindless it can create a day of chaos and whining. So I just try to set up a day of no checklists, no errands, nothing! A day of nothing out of the house can work wonders too. A day at the beach, or the park, can be so wonderful.
3. Designate a special time
I have to let everyone know there is an allocated time just for Me! I'll either go to a cafe, shopping, get my hair done, sit on the beach, go for a walk, ANYTHING positive I can enjoy that makes me feel AMAZING. I have to put it in my calendar, on the fridge, write it on every bathroom mirror, tape it to my walls - whatever it takes to MAKE IT KNOWN, this is MY time - my afternoon - my special hour - however long it may be. It's mine!
What do you do to unwind?
Throw your tips my way! :)
